and Apprentice Program
EcoVillage
Farm Learning Center Provides the opportunity
for select individuals who are interested in learning
about one of more of the following while engaging
in participatory “hand and minds on”
activities with urban youth, adults and families:
- Watershed
Protection
- Creek
Restoration
- Sustainable
Agriculture
- Horticulture
- Small
Animal husbandry
(i.e. chicken, ducks, goats, sheep and rabbits…)
- Alternate
energy
- Youth
Leadership Development
- Healthy
Living/Life Style Skills
- Computer
Literacy
- And
Other related environmental education, social
living and community building skills
Interns
and apprentices must be highly motivated and demonstrate
the ability to work well with people of various
cultural backgrounds and under the supervision
of the program Director.
Limited
living accommodation may be made available in
exchange for services provided.

Fish Advisory Project
During the past three years EcoVillage Farm
Learning Center has been actively involved in
providing consumers awareness and education information
to West Contra Costa County residents about the
health risks associated with eating methyl-mercury
contaminated fish caught from the Sacramento Delta
Watershed.

Eco Village director Shyaam Shabbaka attends
The World Summit on Sustainable Development
in South Africa
As
a grantee of the Ford Foundation's Sustainable
Metropolitan Communities Iniative, Shyaam
Shabbaka, pictured left, attended The World
Summit in Johannesburg to particiapte in meetings,
share best practices and to observe the 'reality
from the rhetoric'. The experience enriched
his work 'toward a more racially just, ecologically
sustainable and economically fair society'
as translated into the formation of Eco Village. |

Colombian
activist Libia Gruesco visits Eco Village
Libia Gruesco, pictured first from the right,
secured more than 5.9 million acres in territorial
rights for the Colombia's black rural communities,
including lands in the Pacific rainforest. She
is the South/Central American recipient of the
Goldman Environmental prize. Libia visited Eco
Village Farm Center this past spring to tour the
grounds and projects.
